Project Description

THE CLIENT – PORK FARMS

Pork Farms has established itself as Britain’s favourite pork pie brand. They make over 40 million pies a year, reaching 5 million households and they are proud to combine the finest ingredients with 100% British pork to make this uniquely British snack.

THE CHALLENGE

Pork farms has 2 low voltage substations across the site with an average lagging power factor of 0.78. Our challenge was a complete service of the system and to analyse why the power factor was not working correctly.

THE SOLUTION

AS Power Engineering Ltd carried out a full annual inspection of the system, noticing three hand/off/auto switches snapped in the ‘off’ position. This was then rectified allowing the capacitor bank to work effectively. This shows the importance of servicing and sometimes how easy it can be resolved.
This increased the power factor to 0.99 eliminating reactive power charges from the electricity billing and allowed reductions in KVA availability. This saved Pork Farms over £2,000 per annum.

THE RESULTS

  • Energy savings of over £2,000 per annum
  • Power factor increased from 0.78 to 0.99
  • Significant reduction in carbon emissions
